It is said that a picture can say a thousand words, or has the ability to tell a story. IF photos or oreos could actually speak, here’s what this one would say, “Ohh, heyyy, I’m a candy coated oreo, all tasty and pretty.” Yeah, it would…
How do you make America’s favorite cookie even better? Add more chocolate or candy! These sweet treats are getting very popular and can be decorated as extravagant as you’d like, or, not at all. Super score- they are SO easy.
These oreos are a preview of the white, red, and pink flood of Valentine’s Day we are all about to experience. But chocolate covered oreos can be used for any occasion. Throwing a jungle themed baby shower? Sweet, swirl some green and browns and top with a candy leaf. Having a Shark Week-athon? Nice. Make some Blue oreos and top with a shark fin. Que scary music.
Alright, want the behind the scenes operation?
Tools:
•Silicone cupcake pan or circular candy cookie molds
•Glass bowls
•Spoons for mixing and scooping
Ingredients:
•Chocolate or candy melts
•oreos
First, melt the candy or chocolate. Microwave in 15 second intervals, stir after each interval. Continue until all the candy has melted.
Then scoop a layer of candy/chocolate into the pan or mold, about a quarter to a half inch thick, let set a little bit so the oreo does not sink. If you want a swirl look, add a couple splotches of color first, then swirl with a toothpick. Put an oreo on this first layer.
Add melted candy over the oreo until completely covered, swish the candy around to avoid holes on the sides of the oreos. Try to level the surface as much as possible.
Let the oreo and candy completely cool. Seriously, COMPLETELY. You will be excited to see the outcome, but just keep your socks on and find something productive to do, like clean up the mess you’ve just made. For all you impatient ones, put in the fridge or freezer.
RELEASE THE OREO. I totally said that in pirate voice. (release the kraken.) I hope you did, too.
And awesome. A quick, cute treat. Top with sprinkles, candy pearls, fondant deco, paint with melted candy melts. Anything you desire.
A few notes that may be helpful. A candy mold would be most efficient, it fits the size of an oreo better, avoiding a mouth full of just candy or chocolate before you get to the oreo. Also, you can use cupcake cups, IF you do not mind the look of the jagged sides.
I sprinkled my oreos with sea salt before adding the second layer. Mind. Blown.
