Minnie Mouse. A classic Disney Icon, loved by many children and adults of all kind. What’s not to love with her flashy bow, oversized ears, cute as a button voice, and her adorable poses. No wonder kids love to have a Minnie Mouse birthday theme!
My niece, with such a fine taste in cartoons, loves Minnie Mouse (at the time, we all know how quick a child can change their minds!), and I got to create some fun Minnie goodies for her first birthday.
As much as I love my niece, and enjoyed watching her and the other kiddos enjoy these sweet treats, let me just take a second and tell you the agonizing pain of being at a gathering where I have made the cake. Yes, everyone compliments the looks of the said cake or cupcakes, but in my mind holds an internal countdown.
Okay. Every guest who is coming has arrived. Alright. Now, the fight starts to get all the kids settled down and eating. Oh gosh. Everyone is finished eating. Now we’re going to… “Presents!” Oh, whew, presents first, not cake time yet.
The last present is opened, and luckily for me, the kids are too occupied with new noisy toys, except that one kid who just wants to play with balloons (‘atta boy/girl), and then there’s always that one adult who’s throwing wrapping paper balls at people (right on, you’re only as old as you feel, but if you throw it into the cake, I’ll release the beast). Typically, at the birthday parties I’ve been to, it’s the adults, ehem, men, who pry at the cake table.
So, one of the men uses an excuse to grab a cupcake, “I need to get going, let’s sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and blow out candles.”
Ohh, boy, it’s almost that time. WHOOP WHOOP! This little being is having issues blowing out the last candle, props to trick candles! Also, props to the person who drags out the moment with cracks on how many boyfriends/girlfriends the birthday kiddo has based on numbers of leftover burning candles, because we all know how accurate that is! Aaaaand, candles are out. This is it. It’s time. Who is going to hold my hand through this?
I feel blinded by the flash from the silver foe that non cake decorators call a knife. Yeah, that “knife” is about to… Mess. Stuff. Up.
The first stroke of that silver foe cuts into the cake. No, my cake. Yeah, I brought that birthday cake for someone else, someone special to me, but it’s still my cake. My cake that I spent hours on.
People are served cake and icecream. By people I mean cake wreckers.
The leading suspense and agony that has formed from watching my creation being sliced and diced soon diminishes as I watch (creepily watching from the corner of the room, might I add… just kidding family!) the ones I love enjoy the cake I’ve made for this very occasion. Worth every minute of love and time put into that cake and cupcakes.
Unless. Unless I am made to cut the cake. Then all hell breaks out, starting with the “mom look”. Yeah, you know the one. Better run.
Oh and did I mention that that man who ‘needed to get going’ is still lingering, visiting, and on his second piece of cake. Mmmk, find a better excuse next time, dude.
Back to Minnie and my cute niece, though, yes? Here are her matching Minnie cupcakes!
Fondant ears, cut out with the opposite end of a frosting tip and mini fondant bows. These helped complete my niece’s Minnie Mouse themed birthday party!
So sweet!
