Twin Gender Reveal Cakes

Got a secret, can you keep it?!

I was asked to create two gender reveal cakes for twins! When my friend, momma to be, contacted me to do so, I was also notified that she nor the father would know the gender of the twins until they cut into the cakes! Ummm, yes please!

So the ultrasound appointment was made, and as long as the twins were compliant, the genders would then be revealed, only to be sealed into an envelope for MY viewing ONLY! The results were dropped off, and ever so patiently I chatted with the momma to be. On her way out, as soon as she latched the door shut behind her, I immediately ripped the envelope open!

Ah hah! Victory is mine!

The ultrasound tech and myself were the only souls who knew what gender these precious babies are. This kind of secret gives a being a certain sense of power, like a sibling tantalizing the other sibling on their knowledge of an anticipated birthday gift, “Haha, I know what you’re getting and youuu doooon’t.” -anyone with a sibling totally read that in the annoyingly mocking sibling voice.

Anyway, my sense of power of the knowledge I held in my hands… Que evil laugh.

If I was that excited, I cannot imagine how my friend felt when she got to cut into the cakes!

Ah, yes, the cakes. I wanted to do something special, so I asked my friend if she had any favorite childhood books or nursery rhymes. She named a few, but I halted when she said her grandfather used to sing My Only Sunshine to her as a little girl. Okay. Done. Say no more. Sweetest. Thing. EVER! I found my inspiration for creating her reveal cakes! What would be paired best to My Only Sunshine? Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! Day and Night, as from what I hear twins end up being quite opposite! Only time will tell who will be who!

Okay, with theme in mind and colors given to me by mommy to be, yellow and grey, the reveal cakes operation had commenced!

I used the concrete cake look as the base, allowing a few different shades of grey to shine. And the obvious sun, moon, stars and clouds, complete with cute little rhymes!

The toppers were made of gumpaste and fondant, including the clouds. The fluffy look of the clouds was accomplished by multiple sized balls of fondant, covered by a thin layer of white fondant. I thought they turned out so adorable!

AND on the inside of BOTH cakes were layers of blue frosting. I looked these cakes over endlessly, making sure not one trace of blue was visible for prying eyes!

2 cakes, 2 baby boys, 2 bundles of joy.

Can’t wait to see what wonderful things you come up with next. My Dad always sang you are my sunshine to us kids when we were growing up all the time!!! Your #1 fan!!
